Chris’ Corner Shakespeare Theater returns with its seventh presentation of death-erotic scenes from the classic plays. In this modern-dress version of Shakespeare’s Roman/Egyptian passion play, Antony and Cleopatra have lost their war with Caesar. Antony is dead, having fallen on his own sword, and the scene is of Cleopatra’s last moments. She prepares to kill herself with a dagger that has been dipped in poison, which she calls “the asp’s fang”. Antony’s ghost comes to her, and they renew their love, having sex together and re-living the vows and passions they shared. Then Cleopatra takes the dagger and puts it to her own throat, ready to die. Antony’s ghost cuts her throat, welcoming her spirit as it joins his. With pride, dignity and the joy of becoming “fire and air”, Cleopatra bleeds out from her slashed throat and dies. The curtain descends on one of the greatest love stories in history.
